Chile was devastated by an 8.8 earthquake in late February 2010. As you may know, Synaura gets their supply of Maqui Berries from Chile. Has the earthquake affected anything at Synaura and will they be able to continue with their supply of products?
As much as this is an important question, the bigger issue is the people of Chile and what they must be going through. I live in California which is another earthquake hot spot and we have had our share. However, the magnitude of the Chilean earthquake is immense.
News reports are rolling in and just like in Haiti, they can not come close to conveying what it is actually like there. Recently, as you may know, Synaura Executives Dan Maltais and Travis Martin were down in Chile during the Maqui harvest which happens every January.
During their trip, they no doubt spent time with their partners in Chile and developed some new relationships. So they have some personal interests there as well. Synaura will keep us up to date to the extent they need to.
The primary interest Synaura has now is how they can help the people of Chile. The Synaura Fund was created to do just that. So as time goes on we should hear more about this fund and how it can benefit the Chilean people. Certainly, all of us can offer up prayers for the people of Chile, for them to have the strength to endure such a tragedy and trial.
With this in mind, this update and announcements were just released by Synaura International:
Synaura Associates, A few announcements and updates we want to share with you. EARTHQUAKE IN CHILE With Synaura’s deep ties to Chile we were heartbroken to hear about the devastating earthquake that hit the country this weekend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Chileans. As most of you know the Synaura executive team just returned from Chile three weeks ago. We drove down some of the same roads, walked down the same paths and visited some of the same buildings that were affected by this disaster making this feel even closer to home. We have been in contact with the harvesters, mapuche villagers, Maqui collection facilities and the processors in Chile and the good news is that there was little to no damage in the areas that Synaura harvests the Maqui due to the limited infrastructure and sparse population. Synaura’s support has never been needed more than it is today. We have reached out to the Chilean government and offered additional support and resources and we have set up an additional fund to help supply interest free micro-loans to villages and business’ directly associated with the harvesting and processing of Synaura’s Maqui berry. Although we are deeply saddened by the loss of lives and physical damage this earthquake has caused, we also realize that this disaster could have been far worse as evident in Haiti just a month ago. We ask that your thoughts and prayers go out to those whose lives were affected and we thank you all for your support. Your success and commitment is directly affecting the recovery in Chile. Without you none of this would be possible. Together we are Synaura.
